DOES MORE HORSEPOWER MEAN MORE SPEED?
Horse power means amount of POWER a car can produce. So hp is a figure the use to measure a cars power. One can ask how is it calculated, it is simply done by multiplying the amount of force in (POUNDS) by the speed (in feet per second). In feet per second is the unit of linear speed in the foot-pound-second ( fps ) or English system.
So for example let's say your car engine can generate 300 pounds of force and move at a speed of 3 feet per second. The engine horsepower would be 900. (300*3). Does this mean 1HP is equal to one real horse power? The answer is no, this is a very common misconception actually one real horse is capable of producing a maximum of around 15 horsepower at it's peak power. FUN FACT: A human being is capable of approximately five horsepower at peak power production.
Generally, speaking the more horsepower your car has, the faster you will be able to go. A good hp for a car should be in the range of 200 to 300HP.
